Club Policies

Membership

  • Membership of London Victorians is open to anyone which is at least 18 years old upon joining the Club.
  • Membership fees are £35/month with a minimum commitment of 4 months and payable until either 30th September or 31st March of the following year; this corresponds to Toastmasters International membership cycles.
  • New members who have never been members of Toastmasters International before additionally have to pay a one-off £30 joining fee. This fee is waived for reinstated members or dual members of another Toastmasters Club.
  • Membership of the Club is non-refundable, as this would be unfair towards members who are unable to attend meetings for personal or professional reasons.
  • Honorary or discounted membership of the Club can be conferred upon individual members by decision of the Club leadership team. Such decisions would be considered on a case by case basis, and only awarded to members who displayed a consistent track record of service and commitment towards the Club and Toastmasters International.

Meeting Participation

As far as practicable, members are encouraged to indicate if they will be able to attend meetings in advance via Toastmasterclub.org. Doing so helps the Club leadership team organize meetings.

Speeches & Roles

  • Members are encouraged to request speeches and to sign-up for roles in advance. They can do so up to 3 months in the future, enabling them to plan their next 2 to 3 speeches.
  • To provide all members with opportunities to speak and to practice other aspects of public speaking. Members should leave 3 to 4 weeks between prepared speeches and do meeting roles in the intervening time period.
  • In the interest of fairness, members should not request to do both a role and deliver a prepared speech at the same meeting.
  • Reserve Speaker or Reserve Functionary positions are available to members who are prepared to step-up at short notice if needed. If a vacancy for a role or a speech slot arises before the agenda of the next meeting is finalized (typically Monday evening), these roles will be given first priority to fill the vacancy.
  • If speakers wish to use the audiovisual equipment (AV) available in the Club’s venue, it is their responsibility to set-up the equipment and bring their own laptop and HDMI adapter to project slides.
